About the Club

The UConn Fencing Club has been in existence since the late 1970s and has been somewhat competitive, though the new batch of officers and fencers hope to mold it into a much more competitive club in the near future.

The experience level of the UConn fencers ranges from novices who have never touched a blade to fencers who have been competing for more than seven years.

All three weaponsfoil, sabre and épée – are taught, and one-on-one lessons from the coach and more experienced fencers can be requested.

In the past two years, the club has sent fencers to various local competitions at Candlewood Fencing Center, Sword in the Scroll Fencing Academy and Farmington Valley Fencing Academy, bringing home good results.

UConn fencers also traveled to Smith College in Northampton, Mass., to compete in The Big One, the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference‘s (NEIFC) largest competition.

The UConn club is a member of both the NEIFC and some fencers are members of the United States Fencing Association (USFA).

Practice times are over for the summer, but will resume again in the fall. The club’s home turf is Hawley Armory.
