John Kennedy

John, a 2011 graduate of UConn, began his coaching career at Guilford High School, his hometown school, during the 2011-2012 school year. As assistant coach, he helped lead the team to an Connecticut State High School Squad Championship in men’s and women’s epee, men’s foil, and a second-place finish in women’s foil. Additionally, both men’s and women’s teams captured the Connecticut State High School Team Championship.

He began coaching at UConn during the 2012-2013 school year, while continuing to coach at GHS. He helped coach the team to a second-place finish in women’s epee and a third-place finish in women’s foil. The women’s team finished second overall in the state.

A journalism and English double major , he spends the rest of his time as a journalist.

As part of the UConn Fencing Club, he was instrumental in driving the club towards participating in more competitions, while still maintaining a welcoming club climate. As president, he worked with the officers at the time to further this mission, which the current officers still abide by. As a fencer, he finished 30th out of 71 competitors in the 2010 Big One at Smith College, and also served as the club’s armorer.

As co-captain of the GHS team from 2006-2007, he finished ninth in the Connecticut State High School Individual Championships and took part in the 2006 Junior Olympics in Hartford, placing 163rd out of 255 participants.
