Amanda Simon

Amanda Simon, President

Amanda is a pre-med student in the Honors Program, studying molecular and cell biology, as well as Spanish. A 2012 graduate of Guilford High School, she helped lead the women’s foil squad to two consecutive victories at the Winter Classic Invitational (2010 and 2011), second place in the Connecticut State High School Squad Championship (2012), and overall Connecticut State High School Team Championship for the women’s team (2012).

Since graduating high school, she has participated in the Big One (2012) at Smith College and in the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Championship (2013) at Brandeis University as the A-strip female foilist. She has been fencing at Fencer’s School of Connecticut in Guilford since 2007.

When off-strip, Amanda is an active member of UConn’s Medical Humanitarian Society and works as an undergraduate research assistant in the Nelson lab, furthering embryonic stem cell research. She enjoys playing volleyball, singing, traveling, volunteering, baking, and reading as well.

Skylar Koll

 

Skylar Koll, Secretary

As a junior in the Animal Science department, Skylar Koll is nearly done with her Pre-Vet undergrad program.

When she’s not fencing sabre at the Armory, or creating events for her other clubs, she can be found down by East Campus and the horse barns.

She loves teaching others about the animals she cares about, and even on how to handle them for Little I- UConn’s own livestock show.

Her interests include: hiking, kayaking, reading books/watching movies, and cheering on the UConn Men’s Soccer team at Marrone Stadium in the fall.

Joey Fong

Joseph Fong, Treasurer

Joseph Fong is currently a sophomore studying political science and economics and is the Fencing Club’s current CFO. As a freshman, he was CFO of the Buckley- Shippee Area Council and is familiar with the financial management of University organizations.

Joseph began fencing in foil in 2007 with Coach Mio David at the Fencing Academy of Westchester in Hawthorne, NY, where he participated in many local tournaments in New York and New Jersey, including the Cobra Open Foil Championships in Jersey City. At the University of Connecticut, Joseph has been a member of the Fencing club since his freshman year, again fencing foil, where he has participated in the NEIFC tournament known as “The Big One” at Smith College, as well as the B strip fencer in the NEIFC club tournament at the University of New Hampshire.

Outside of fencing, Joseph is often found in the practice room playing violin, as he is a member of the University Symphony Orchestra.

Scott Walker

Scott Walker, Event Coordinator

Scott Walker, The Event Coordinator, is a Molecular and Cellular Biology major here at UConn.

He started fencing freshman year at Drexel University and transferred to UConn.

He fences primarily sabre and epee but likes to dabble in everything.

When he’s not fencing, he does other activities like archery and kendo.

This is his last semester here and plans to continue his education into a graduate or healthcare field.
